I strive to create counseling sessions to meet the unique needs for my clients.

For some, talk therapy is a natural fit and for others it is not. For these folks, creative modalities such as EMDR, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, Havening and Sand tray therapy may be a better fit. These therapies do not rely heavily on talking or remembering painful events in detail. I am certified in EMDR and Havening, and I have completed levels one and two of Sensorimotor Psychotherapy.

I am a certified Play Therapist and for young children, and employ Play Therapy. In this type of therapy, the child takes the lead and I provide a safe and structured environment for children to work through their problems through the use of specially selected play items. For older children and adolescents creative interventions are incorporated to provide an alternative means for expression. I maintain contact with the child’s parent to provide updates and to determine if progress is being made. Parents are invited into therapy sessions when appropriate.

I provide the following types of therapy:  Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) Sensorimotor Psychotherapy , Ego State Therapy, Havening Techniques, Hypnosis, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) .

CBT is a type of "talk" therapy that not only assists individuals with recognizing negative thought patterns, but also utilizes in between session activities to practice new skills.
EMDR is a very different type of therapy that can assist an individual to more rapidly work through distressing experiences, without relying on the typical "talk" therapy session. Individual's are asked to simultaneously think of a distressing experience, while attending to a stimulus such as using their eyes to track a moving object. Doing these together helps the brain find memories that could help resolve the distressing experience. Many individuals can experience relief in a few sessions. Of course, with any type of therapy results depend on the unique nature of the problem and the individual's natural tendencies toward healing.
Sensorimotor Psychotherapy utilizes the wisdom of the body to work through distressing events. This therapy assists the individual with developing an attunement with the body in order to achieve self empowerment and control.
Ego State Therapy is a powerful therapeutic approach which accesses the unwanted or fearful aspects of the self. This therapy fosters a deeper awareness of unmet needs and allows the individual to meet these needs, therefore, reducing dependence on others, substances or risky behaviors.

Hypnosis uses a client's own internal resources to make the changes they wish to see in their lives. Hypnosis is a state of concentrated attention that allows the client deeper clarity for attaining their goals. Sometimes, hypnosis is used to explore factors that may stall progress toward goals.

Havening techniques create Delta waves, which create deep relaxation. These techniques can quickly reduce or eliminate emotions that interfere with daily life.

Relational Life Therapy is my treatment of choice for Couples. With this therapy, couples learn to identify their losing strategies that contribute to their problems, develop personal accountability, increase intimacy and ultimately develop ongoing respectful interactions.

I provide Substance Abuse assessments and counseling for adolescents and adults in an outpatient setting. These Outpatient services are primarily for those who are unaware that they have a problem, those who would like to stop a small problem before it becomes a big problem or folks who have completed intensive outpatient treatment and require follow up care.
I also provide counseling for individuals experiencing a process addiction (gambling, gaming, internet, pornography, sex). These addictions are often experienced as deeply shameful and individuals can be reluctant to access therapy. Treatment for these individuals is provided with respect and non-judgment, utilizing the therapeutic approaches described above.
